Update: New Possibilities with FRITZ!Box

AVM products undergo continuous development to take them to the next level. Free updates let users take advantage of new functions. And the current firmware update is no exception.

Replace your Answering Machine and Fax Machine with the FRITZ!Box

In the past, it was only possible to connect answering machines and fax machines to the FRITZ!Box. Now, for the first time ever, both functions are integrated right into the box (only FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 and 7140). Incoming faxes and voice messages saved on the answering machine can be forwarded by e-mail to any address. In the majority of cases, these features make seperate devices redundant. And, because your fax machine and answering machine are on standby mode 24 hours a day, you use a lot less energy by getting rid of them.

USB Devices Across the Entire network

The USB 2.0 port now offers a number of ways to use USB devices such as printers and hard disks across the whole network. With USB remote access, these devices are, technically speaking, connected directly to the PC.

A Secure VPN Connection

This latest update also provides the FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 with a new VPN function, making it possible to connect to the local FRITZ!Box network more cheaply from the outside. Network applications such as e-mail, remote desktop and filesharing programs can be securely used by branch offices or from the workstations of offsite staff. For more information on VPN, see www.avm.de/en/vpn.

Practical: Remote Wakeup with “Wake on LAN”

The new network overview lets users keep an eye on all of the network devices and users connected to the Internet through their FRITZ!Box at any given time. IP addresses can also be permanently assigned in the detailed view. What is more, computers in standby mode can be booted up remotely via the Internet using "Wake on LAN".

The functions described are available with the current Firmware version xx.04.67 for FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170, FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7140 and FRITZ!Box Fon 5124. This firmware is available for free download at: www.avm.de/en/Download
