New series: more home networking convenience

In this series, which looks at the subject of home networking, we’ll regularly be giving you practical advice on a range of possible applications. This will enable you to make the most of your FRITZ!Box and its impressive range of features, as well as increase the convenience of your home network.

Incorporating a Printer into the Home Network with the Remote USB Port

In the first issue, we’ll be introducing the new remote USB port (version 02.02.01). With this practical feature, USB printers can now be better integrated into the home network and better combined with your FRITZ!Box.

As soon as the print job is complete, the printer is once again available to everyone using the home network

Thanks to new “print-on-demand” technology, the USB printers connected with the FRITZ!Box are automatically linked to the computer that has sent the print request. As soon as the print job is complete, the printer is once again available to everyone using the home network

Up to now, a USB printer connected with the FRITZ!Box and operated using the remote USB port could only be linked to the computer by a click of the mouse, or automatically as the computer started up. The user then had to disconnect it manually or it would otherwise be occupied as far as the other computers in the home network were concerned. But the remote USB port makes all this a thing of the past!

Straightforward Installation via the User Interface

The update is available for Windows 7, Vista and XP (32 and 64-bit). The program can be installed via the user interface on your FRITZ!Box or updated using the “Update program” function (pop-up menu).
